Where to Stay in the Rhine Valley, Germany in 2026

The Upper Middle Rhine Valley is a scenic and historic 40 mile (65 km) stretch of river between Koblenz and Rüdesheim. This area has some of the best villages in Germany and boasts one of the highest concentrations of castles in the world.
You’ll experience scenic river views, well-preserved half-timbered buildings, steep vineyard hillsides, and picturesque streets in any of the Rhine towns below. When making a choice, you should consider your means of travel. If you’re traveling by river cruise, look for the towns with docking locations along the Rhine. If you’re traveling by train, most of these towns are relatively compact so you’ll be within walking distance from the train station. But if you’re traveling by car, then look for hotels (or Rhine River castles hotels!) with parking facilities on-site or nearby.
Also think about the activities you want to enjoy. If touring medieval castles is a priority, you’ll want to look for a hotel that’s in close proximity to several castles on your bucket list. Wine enthusiast will find restaurants serving locally produced wines from the steep sloped vineyards of towns like Bacharach and Boppard.
We’ve spent a lot of time along the Rhine and keep coming back. Below are our best recommendations for accommodations from our many trips. If you’d like to see details on the hotels and their locations relative to towns, castles, and other must-see sites, consider using our Germany Travel Planner. We’re sure it will speed up and improve your itinerary planning.
